NBA Analyst sparks sending Giannis Antetokounmpo to young Western Conference contenders

The San Antonio Spurs have emerged as one of the NBA’s top teams early in the season, an encouraging sign for such a young roster. Still, some speculate that the Spurs could pursue a blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo, even with the Milwaukee Bucks having a positive start to their season.

With an 8-3 record, the Spurs occupy one of the NBA’s top spots, with Victor Wembanyama and their young core has already delivered strong performances. This early success suggests that San Antonio is just getting started and could be building something truly special.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently floated the idea that the Spurs should pursue a blockbuster trade to acquire another European superstar in the Greek Freak.

“The trade: Stephon Castle, Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, a 2027 first-round pick (via ATL), a 2030 first-round pick (via SAS, DAL or MIN) and a 2032 first-round pick to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Buckley wrote in his article for Bleacher report.

Pairing Antetokounmpo with Victor Wembanyama would be exciting, but the reality is the Bucks have no plans to trade their superstar anytime soon.

But that didn’t stop Buckley from sharing the trade scenario, “A Wembanyama-Antetokounmpo pairing would be impossibly long, unfairly agile and absurdly skilled. Beyond that, their games should complement one another. Collectively, they could silence opposing scorers of nearly all sizes and play styles, and on offense, Wemby’s shooting and Antetokounmpo’s relentless rim attacks would buy the other all the breathing room they needed. This would be a can’t-miss combo, and one with a legitimate chance to rule the basketball world for the next half-decade-plus.” the NBA analyst continued.

That conversation might change if the Bucks stumble in the first round this year, but on paper, they appear far stronger than many are giving them credit for.

On the court, Antetokounmpo has been carrying the Bucks in MVP-caliber form. Across 10 games this season, he leads the league with 33.4 points on 62.9 percent shooting while also averaging 11.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.3 blocks in 32.9 minutes per game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the 7-5 Bucks will host the Hornets in a rematch at Fiserv Forum on Friday, with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
