More wins, points and goals: Cherries' season start compared to 2024/25

After 11 games last season, Bournemouth sat 12th on 15 points, with a goal difference of 0.

This term, while having a slightly worse goal difference of -1, they are ninth with 18 points from their 11 games.

They have scored 17 goals, conceded 18, won five games, drawn three and lost three so far this season, keeping four clean sheets.

Last season, they had scored and conceded 15 goals at the same stage, winning four and losing four while also drawing three.

While they conceded fewer goals in the first 11 games last season, they had only kept one clean sheet in that time.

Impressively this season, though, the Cherries are eight points better off this season in like for like games compared to last term.

Looking at Andoni Iraola’s side’s results this season up against the same fixture in the last campaign, the Cherries have been able to turn three defeats into positive results and turn one draw into a win.

The opening game of the campaign went the same way as last term, a defeat at Anfield against Liverpool, but the Cherries gained three points in their second game of the campaign.

Last season, they lost 1-0 to Wolves at home, but this season the result was flipped, as they defeated the Midlands side 1-0 thanks to a Marcus Tavernier strike after four minutes.

Up next was a trip to Spurs, where the Cherries spurned a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season.

But they learned their lesson this term, earning an impressive 1-0 win in an excellent performance – that put them five points up on last season's tally.

Five became eight as they returned to the Vitality Stadium to defeat Brighton 2-1, again flipping last season’s result.

Newcastle at home was another draw and their first goalless game of the campaign, before Iraola’s side headed to newly promoted Leeds.

The Yorkshire side finished top of the Championship, so the nearest like-for-like fixture last season is the team that finished the highest among the relegated teams in Leicester.

Last season, there was a disappointing defeat at the King Power Stadium, but this term they were able to snatch a late point thanks to Junior Kroupi’s first goal for the club in stoppage time at Elland Road.

After returning from Leeds, there were four back-to-back results which matched those of last term – a win at home against Fulham, a draw at Palace, a victory over Nottingham Forest and a defeat at Man City.

Their tally of plus nine points compared to last season was knocked down a point in the weekend before the international break, as they were well beaten at Aston Villa, after picking up a point at Villa Park last term.

But, despite that, the Cherries remain impressively up on last season’s results – here’s hoping that trend can continue for the rest of the campaign.
