Tennis Star Taylor Townsend Defends Naomi Osaka From NFL Icon

Naomi Osaka found a loyal friend in fellow tennis star Taylor Townsend, who came to her defense against Terrell Owens' snarky comment.

As the duo welcomed the offseason, the Japanese player and the 29-year-old athlete have embraced a well-deserved trip from thrilling matchups and what better way to unwind than with a single mom's getaway?

Over the past few days, Osaka and Townsend have treated fans to a flurry of photos and clips, including the viral yacht video with them doing their take on the trending Nicki Minaj remix.

Keeping the good times rolling, Townsend posted another video of them enjoying water activities.

The new post showed them dancing together on a jet ski, joined by Alex Boston, talent manager at Osaka's athlete-led sports and lifestyle firm, Evolve Agency.

"Up thru derrreee to Shenan-Again with @naomiosaka," she captioned her Instagram post.

The comment section was filled with positive reactions about the pair's friendship.

"Love seeing y'all together," one wrote.

"I love this friendship," a commenter said.

"You and Osaka Naomie are the two most lovely tennis players now. I really love the vibes between the two of you ," a follower added.

The same goes for another who noted, "Too cute. Live it up, ladies!"

One fan also noticed Osaka's radiant glow and commented, "Naomi looks so happy."

However, Owens jumped into the comment section and seemingly threw some shade at the tennis star.

"A and lost too. Respectfully. Hopefully, by the end of the trip, she finds that rhythm gene. Love that they're living their best lives though!! TT X NO," he said.

Fans quickly came to the defense of the former world No. 1, with one commenting, "Not lost...we are all unique...I can see myself looking like that, thinking I am going."

The retired NFL player's comment also caught the attention of Townsend, prompting her to fire back with a spicy reaction.

"@terrellowens don't come for my girl," she wrote, delivering a true girl's-girl moment.

On the other hand, this wasn't the first time the duo had shown the public that they have each other's backs.

In fact, Osaka defended Townsend after she was criticized by fellow tennis player Jelena Ostapenko following a match at the US Open.

The four-time Grand Slam champion called Ostapenko's remarks "one of the worst things you can say to a Black tennis player," after the Latvian star told Townsend she had "no class" and "no education."
