All eyes will be fixed on how Liverpool respond to their latest Premier League setback when domestic football resumes following the international break. The Reds' 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City was the second defeat in a row that preceded an international spell, following their 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in September.

With 11 games played, Arne Slot's side are left eighth in the table and are already eight points behind league leaders Arsenal. After back-to-back wins over Aston Villa and Real Madrid, Pundits and fans and alike have been left scratching their heads at just how Slot can steer Liverpool's expensively assembled squad back to winning ways following their demolition by City.

A new day brings new transfer links and the Reds are reportedly in the mix for a Bayern Munich star. Liverpool have also been given the green light should they decide to make a bid for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo while doubt has been cast over move for Palace star Marc Guehi.

Liverpool pursuing free transfer

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Germany star Serge Gnabry, with his future at Bayern Munich uncertain. The former Arsenal star has enjoyed a stunning spell in Bavaria since joining in 2017.

Gnabry has made 298 appearances for the reigning German champions in all competitions, scoring on 97 occasions but his time at the club could be coming to an end. Gnabry, 30, is under contract until the end of the current season and would be free to open talks with foreign clubs regarding a Bosman deal as soon as the January transfer window.

Sky in Germany have now reported that Liverpool are in for the ex-Arsenal man with Slot said to be keen on signing a tricky wide man. Bayern have not given up on keeping Gnabry at the Allianz Arena however, with talks over a contract extension underway.

Speaking in the summer, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany outlined his ambitions of keeping the forward clear. He said: “Look, this a very underrated player.

“There are outside opinions, but also our opinion and the opinions of his teammates. He’s an underrated player with very few weaknesses.”

Gnabry began his senior career with Arsenal, making 18 appearances and scoring once. He had an underwhelming loan spell with West Bromwich Albion before leaving permanently for Werder Bremen.

Semenyo green light

Slot looks to have been handed a boost in his pursuit of Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, after the Cherries' general manager admitted they would find it hard to turn down a club of Liverpool's stature.

Tim Bezbatchenko, director of Black Knight Football Club and general manager at Bournemouth, has claimed that he would struggle to say no to elite clubs, mindful of standing in the way of a player's ambitions.

"When a club like Real Madrid, Liverpool, PSG come in and they're competing for Champions League positions, who are we to say, 'No, you can't go, you can't fulfil your dream'," he said on the Business of Sport podcast. "No it wouldn't be like that for all clubs because not everyone is Real Madrid.

"But there is an opportunity and everybody wins right? I think that's what we're trying to find, this commonality where everybody can win."

Bezbatchenko's words will no doubt be music to the ears of Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes. Hughes was the man who originally brought Semenyo to Bournemouth in his former position at the Cherries.

He will be hoping Bezbatchenko's admission means the Reds can test Bournemouth resolve for the lightning-quick winger in the near future with the Cherries ace having scored six goals so far this season.

Doubts raised over Marc Guehi deal

Former Liverpool winger Jason McAteer has cast doubt on Liverpool signing Eagles star Guehi. The ex-Republic of Ireland player has fired a warning that they could miss out on the England defender if the Reds fail to secure Champions League football this season.

Liverpool had agreed terms for Guehi to join Liverpool, only for Palace to scupper the deal at the eleventh hour. The Eagles' star is set to depart Selhurst Park next summer when his contract runs out, and he will be available on a free transfer.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been linked and McAteer believes the Reds could be at a disadvantage after their disastrous start to the new season.

"Being a free agent brings everyone into the conversation. It brings Bayern Munich in, it brings Real Madrid, Barcelona and other clubs in as well," McAteer told AceOdds.

"If Liverpool drop off, there is no guarantee that they will qualify for the Champions League and that could be one thing which Guehi wants when moving as a free agent.

"It could also be a change of culture or something else. He might end up at Real Madrid and Guehi is a real talent who would go directly into the first team. It really is a concern that Liverpool missed out on him."
