All eyes will be on Liverpool as they look to bounce back from their recent Premier League disappointment when the domestic football season resumes after the international break. The Reds' 3-0 drubbing by Manchester City marked their second consecutive defeat before an international period, following a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace in September.

With 11 matches under their belt, Arne Slot's team find themselves in eighth place in the league table, already trailing league leaders Arsenal by eight points. After successive victories over Aston Villa and Real Madrid, pundits and supporters alike are left pondering how Slot can guide Liverpool's costly squad back onto the winning track after their thrashing by City.

A new day brings fresh transfer rumours, with the Reds reportedly showing interest in a Bayern Munich star. Liverpool have also been given the go-ahead should they choose to place a bid for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo, while there are doubts over a potential move for Palace star Marc Guehi.

Liverpool pursuing free transfer

Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing German star Serge Gnabry, whose future at Bayern Munich is uncertain. The former Arsenal player has had a remarkable stint in Bavaria since his arrival in 2017.

Gnabry has turned out 298 times for the Bundesliga giants across all competitions, finding the net on 97 occasions, though his stint at the club may be drawing to a close. The 30-year-old's deal expires at the season's end and he'll be eligible to discuss terms with overseas sides regarding a free transfer once January arrives.

Sky Germany have now claimed that Liverpool are pursuing the former Arsenal winger, with Slot reportedly eager to recruit a skilful wide player. Bayern remain hopeful of retaining Gnabry at the Allianz Arena though, with discussions over fresh terms currently taking place.

Speaking during the summer, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany expressed his desire to retain the attacker. He said: "Look, this a very underrated player.

"There are outside opinions, but also our opinion and the opinions of his teammates. He's an underrated player with very few weaknesses."

Gnabry launched his professional journey with Arsenal, featuring 18 times and netting once. He endured a disappointing temporary stint with West Bromwich Albion before departing permanently for Werder Bremen.

Semenyo green light

Slot appears to have received encouragement in his chase for Bournemouth talent Antoine Semenyo, following the Cherries' general manager's admission they would struggle to reject a club of Liverpool's calibre.

Tim Bezbatchenko, director of Black Knight Football Club and general manager at Bournemouth, has admitted that he would find it difficult to reject approaches from elite clubs, conscious of blocking a player's aspirations.

"When a club like Real Madrid, Liverpool, PSG come in and they're competing for Champions League positions, who are we to say, 'No, you can't go, you can't fulfil your dream'," he said on the Business of Sport podcast. "No it wouldn't be like that for all clubs because not everyone is Real Madrid.

"But there is an opportunity and everybody wins right? I think that's what we're trying to find, this commonality where everybody can win."

Bezbatchenko's comments will undoubtedly be welcomed by Liverpool's sporting director Richard Hughes. Hughes was the person who initially brought Semenyo to Bournemouth during his previous role at the Cherries.

He will be hoping Bezbatchenko's admission means the Reds can challenge Bournemouth's resolve for the pacy winger in the coming months, with the Cherries ace having netted six goals so far this campaign.

Concerns raised over Marc Guehi transfer

Former Liverpool winger Jason McAteer has raised concerns over the club's pursuit of Crystal Palace star Guehi. The ex-Republic of Ireland international has issued a caution that they could lose out on the England defender if the Reds fail to qualify for Champions League football this season.

Liverpool had agreed terms for Guehi to join the Reds, only for Palace to thwart the deal at the last minute. The Eagles ace is set to leave Selhurst Park next summer when his contract expires, and he will be available on a free transfer.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been linked, and McAteer believes the Reds could be at a disadvantage after their disastrous start to the new season.

"Being a free agent brings everyone into the conversation. It brings Bayern Munich in, it brings Real Madrid, Barcelona and other clubs in as well," McAteer told AceOdds.

"If Liverpool drop off, there is no guarantee that they will qualify for the Champions League and that could be one thing which Guehi wants when moving as a free agent.

"It could also be a change of culture or something else. He might end up at Real Madrid and Guehi is a real talent who would go directly into the first team. It really is a concern that Liverpool missed out on him."
