Opta supercomputer projects Wolves to break Premier League points record

Wolves’ season could be about to get a whole lot worse if Opta supercomputer’s points projection is anything to go by.

Following Wolves’ defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League last time out, they remain on just two points after 11 games. Only Stoke City in 1951/52 avoided relegation with that record.

The current start is the second-worst in Premier League history, so Rob Edwards has a mountain to climb on his return to Molineux.

How many points will Wolves end up on this season?

One thing that desperately needs sorting out is the defensive record. The Old Gold have conceded a league-worst 25 goals, as well as scoring a league-low seven goals.

Jorgen Strand Larsen’s form and an inconsistent back line have been two major contributors.

Opta supercomputer projects Wolves to finish rock bottom

A miracle is required to turn things around at Wolves, but this isn’t the first time they’ve been in this position, after sitting on three points after ten games last season.

However, this time seems different. The exits of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri have hit harder then anyone could have imagined, and the new signings are yet to have much of an impact.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

Opta doesn’t see things improving from here. In fact, if their projection comes true then Wolves will only win five more points in their remaining 27 games.

The other projected relegated teams would have 28 and 24 more points than Wolves.

Premier League lowest points record

Derby County currently hold the record for the lowest-ever tally in the Premier League with 11 points.

Wolves would have to have a pretty disastrous season for that to happen, but it’s hard to envisage where a win may come from at this point.

Club Points tally Season

Derby County 11 2007-2008

Southampton 12 2024-2025

Sunderland 15 2005-2006

Sheffield United 16 2023-2024

Huddersfield Town 16 2018-2019

Aston Villa 17 2015-2016

Sunderland 19 2002-2003

Portsmouth 19 2009-2010

Steve Bruce has even set Wolves a target of winning 10 out of the next 27 games. But, given how the newly promoted sides have performed so far this season, wins are even harder to come by.

However, if Rob Edwards’ first interview as Wolves boss is anything to go by, then the early signs are positive. But the old saying is, actions speak louder than words.
