Powell chipped in with four goals and two assists last month, helping the Under-21s secure victories against Manchester City and Manchester United.
The 19-year-old started the season at left-back but has thrived since moving higher up the pitch and getting more opportunities to make his mark in the final third.
“It was a great honour and privilege to win the award. I feel grateful, I don’t think anyone has really won it at Blackburn so it is a proud moment for me and my family,” Powell told [RoversTV](https://youtu.be/MoQacj9ca8M?ref=ed_direct).
“It was definitely a different month, I was playing in a different position and ended up scoring or assisting in every game we played.
“I feel like I adapted really well and as the month went on, I was only getting better and feeling more confident in myself.”
He added: “I started playing higher up the pitch and doing that has allowed me to use my skills in a different position. I was getting more goal scoring opportunities and making assists more, it just kind of clicked.
“I always played out wide and going more central. Sometimes as a full-back, I would come inside quite a bit and receive it. I used that part of my game, especially in the 10 role, to get on the ball and face forward.
“The first game, I was involved in two goals and that gave me the confidence to keep doing what I was doing and thrive from there.”
Powell was named on the bench at first-team level three times last season and signed a new deal at Ewood Park in the summer.
“(The aim) has stayed the same,” he said. “I’m happy the awards are coming in but I want to try and push for the first team, get an opportunity there and grab it with both hands. I want to try and break through this season and show what I can do.”
Earlier this week, [Gregory Vignal was confirmed as the new head coach of the Under-21 side](https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/25609581.blackburn-rovers-appoint-ex-liverpool-man-under-21-boss/?ref=ed_direct) following the departure of long-serving Mike Sheron.
“He has been really good,” Powell insisted. “He wants everyone to be together as a team and we are already starting to do that.
“He has been really strong on the team part and everyone works for each other. It is something different, he sets a first-team environment around us and we are only going to get better.
“Shez did a good job while he was here but now Greg is bringing a different style and we are playing a different kind of game.
“It’s a different attitude towards it and a different way of teaching us. We are all taking it on board.”
