Diego Leon has admitted his signing for Manchester United is a big deal in his homeland, as he looks forward to representing his country again.

The South American youngster, who joined the Reds from Cerro Porteno earlier this year, is away with national team, preparing for upcoming matches against USA and Mexico.

Paraguay are looking forward to competing at next summer's World Cup finals and Leon is clearly proud of his roots.

The 18-year-old has been in good form for our Under-21s and is aiming to build on his senior international debut, which came last month against South Korea.

"For Paraguay, to have a player playing here at United is huge," Leon admitted to club media. "I think for Paraguayans they’re very proud to have someone from there playing in a club as big as Manchester United.

"It is an amazing, unique feeling to represent your country for all the people of Paraguay. I don’t know, it has no explanation - for my family it is an immense sense of pride to see me play with my national team."

The wing-back was asked to describe his home country to those who are not familiar with the South American nation.

"The people of Paraguay will surprise you," he volunteered. "They’re so kind, even if they don’t have much, they will always help you."

The friendly away to USA takes place on Saturday night UK time and is being played at Subaru Park, the home of Philadelphia Union in Pennsylvania.
