Report: Nuno now eyeing move to sign ‘very promising’ English star for West Ham

West Ham United have reignited their interest in Toulouse and England U21 defender Charlie Cresswell, according to talkSPORT.

The London Stadium side are believed to be among a host of clubs eyeing a 2026 move for the 23-year-old defender, who has been hugely impressive in France in the last 15 months.

Several sides are reported to be keen on bringing Cresswell back to English football after he left Leeds United for Toulouse in the summer of 2024.

The central defender has made 46 appearances for the French club since, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.

He also played a key role in England’s triumph in the Under-21s Euros this summer, helping Lee Carsley’s side successfully defend their title.

Cresswell played just 135 minutes of Championship football for Leeds before making his move to Toulouse in the summer of 2024, where he became an instant starter.

The 'very promising' 23-year-old defender featured in all but three of Toulouse’s Ligue 1 games last term, and has so far played every single minute of their 2025/26 campaign, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Toulouse have lost just once in their last six games in Ligue 1 and are 10th in the table, with 16 goals conceded across their first 12 games.

Cresswell has seemingly carried his top form from the aforementioned Under-21s Euros this summer, where he played a key role in the Young Lions’ triumph.

He was named in the Team of the Tournament and kept Newcastle’s record signing Nick Woltemade quiet in the final, helping England’s U21s triumph over Germany's U21s 3-2 after extra time.

As a result of his meteoric rise, Cresswell has earned comparisons to former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva over their playing similarities and threat in the penalty box.

West Ham have endured a turbulent start to the Premier League season, having replaced manager Graham Potter with Nuno Espirito Santo just five games into the campaign.

The London Stadium side have enjoyed a run of positive results lately, as they registered their first back-to-back wins of the season over Newcastle and Burnley.
