Nagelsmann: “Football is a results-based sport, and we got the result we needed”

Germany’s men’s national team remain top of Group A after picking up three more important points against Luxembourg in their penultimate World Cup qualifier. DFB.de have summed up all the key quotes from goalscorer Nick Woltemade, as well as head coach Julian Nagelsmann and Co. after the win at the Stade de Luxembourg.

**Nick Woltemade:** We didn’t play well in the first half. There wasn’t enough intensity and we didn’t see enough of the ball, it was quite hectic. We often found ourselves in dangerous situations that could have been avoided. We then improved during the second half. Our aim was to add more intensity in order to put them under more pressure. I think we managed to do that and we scored our goals at the right moments. The main thing is that we won. It wasn’t pretty, but we got stuck in, pushed hard and got the three points – that’s all that matters.

**Julian Nagelsmann:** We’re happy to have gotten the three points, as that’s what’s important. Football is a results-based sport, and we got the result we needed. However, it took more effort than we’d hoped it would. We weren’t hitting our limits right from the start, but things then started to improve from the 30th minute onwards. We were able to control the game more and looked more solid in defence. It took a while for us to start marking correctly. We also missed a few chances, which could have really helped calm the game down. The second half was much better and we scored two nice goals as a result. We would have deserved to concede, but we didn’t. We can consider ourselves lucky tonight, and we’re happy to be taking the three points back with us.

**Leroy Sane:** I’m very happy to be back with the team and to be playing. It’s always a fun time and it’s an honour to represent your country. We have a lot that we want to achieve. I’m happy to have gotten an assist and that I’ve been able to somewhat pay back the trust the coach has shown in me.

**David Raum:** It was important for us to take control of the game – I’ll admit that it was hard work. That’s why I’m happy that we’re heading home with the three points. I’m feeling good about the game on Monday.

**Jonathan Tah:** Wearing the captain’s armband means a lot to me. I’m proud that I was able to experience this.
