Arne Slot has been advised that Mohamed Salah should keep his position in the Liverpool line-up, regardless of his current form. The Egyptian striker has experienced inconsistent performances this season following his exceptional campaign last year.

He has netted five goals in 16 matches across all competitions, a stark contrast to his remarkable tally of 34 during the previous term. And while some have suggested that Liverpool manager Slot ought to rest Salah, former Reds player Don Hutchinson holds a different view.

He has indicated that the forward should only be withdrawn from the team when necessary due to the African Cup of Nations, with the former Liverpool star also backing Alexander Isak and Florian Witz to keep their starting spots despite their difficult starts to life at Anfield. Speaking to TEAMtalk, Hutchinson said: "I would be very tempted to play all three from now to the end of the season and play their way into form, into goals, into chemistry, into improving the league position.

"I know it's a big jump from now to the end of season, but that will be Liverpool's team and individuals going forward. That's what I would look at.

"So the uncomfortable conversation is around why and how you don't get Mo Salah into that team anymore. Perhaps the Africa Cup of Nations would be the time to try it!"

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has previously commented on Salah's form and insisted it was not a significant worry. Speaking last month, the Dutchman said: "The main thing is that he always has scored goals for Liverpool.

"The last thing I worry about is Mo scoring goals again. He's done that his entire life and I expect him to do that again in the upcoming weeks and months."

Salah is currently on international duty with Egypt, but it was another challenging outing for the Liverpool player on Friday as the Pharaohs were defeated 2-0 by Uzbekistan in a friendly.

The Egyptian's first opportunity to regain his domestic form will be next weekend when Liverpool host Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.

Like Salah, the Reds have also had a difficult start to the new season. The current champions are presently eighth in the Premier League table after losing five of their first 11 games of the season - their most recent match ended in a 3-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Liverpool have had a more successful start to their latest Champions League campaign, winning three of their first four league stage matches.
