Chelsea outcast set to be reintroduced into Maresca’s squad

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will hope to see his side pick up all three points when they visit Burnley after the international break.

The Blues have enjoyed a relatively strong start to the new campaign and currently sit third in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Maresca has had to deal with injuries to a number of important players this term, including Levi Colwill who is set to miss the entirety of the season.

Fellow defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile have also missed spells due to injury, while Trevoh Chalobah and Malo Gusto have served suspensions.

With that in mind, it has now emerged that Maresca is planning to reintroduce a forgotten man into his squad to bolster his defensive options.

According to The Mirror, centre-back Axel Disasi is set to be handed a lifeline at Chelsea and be gradually reintroduced into the first team squad.

The Frenchman hasn’t featured for the Blues since January and was part of a ‘bomb squad’ consisting of players that had been told they had no part to play in Maresca’s squad.

Disasi and winger Raheem Sterling were among the most high profile players to be included in the ‘bomb squad’, and the duo have both been training away from the first team this term.

The Frenchman was linked with a number of clubs over the summer after being told he was free to depart Stamford Bridge, but a move never materialised.

Last week the ex-Monaco man featured for Chelsea’s Under-21s in a 4-1 victory against Reading, and the report suggests that the club are now planning to bring the defender back into the first team.

Disasi’s attitude and influence on younger players are said to have impressed those in charge at the club, and the Frenchman may therefore have earned himself another chance in the first team at SW6.
