Manchester United could now face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal for one of their transfer targets
That has not always been the case at Old Trafford in recent years but with Bryan Mbeumo excelling at United and with Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens looking like solid purchases, the Red Devils have spent wisely.
Benjamin Sesko has yet to really get going at the club after a big-money move from RB Leipzig but his performances have also not been poor either. Now United are looking at potential January business.
A new defensive midfielder is something the club could explore if the right opportunity comes along in January. United are open to extending Casemiro’s contract but only if the Brazilian’s wages are reduced but a long-term successor is still required.
Arsenal lead race for Karim Adeyemi
According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal lead the race for Adeyemi and contact by the Gunners has already been made with the player’s agent. He has 18 months to run on his deal at Dortmund and talks over a new contract are said to have stalled in recent weeks.
The German club will not sell the player for less than £62m in January and the player’s representatives have signalled “openness” to a Premier League switch and London is the “preferred destination” over Manchester.
Arsenal lead the race and are positioned “strongly” but the competition from United is said to be “fierce.”
For Adeyemi, he would be behind Bukayo Saka in the pecking order at Arsenal and with United he would have competition from Mbeumo. However, if he was to move to Old Trafford in January, he could go straight into the side with Mbeumo set to join the Cameroon squad at AFCON throughout December and January.
Karim Adeyemi career so far
Adeyemi has been with Dortmund since 2022 having joined the German club from Red Bull Salzburg. He came through the academy at the Austrian club and made his professional debut at the age of 16 during a season-long loan with second-tier Austrian side FC Liefering.
He scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists in 35 games for Liefering before becoming a regular for Salzburg the following campaign. He scored 33 goals and provided 23 assists in 94 games for Salzburg before making the switch to Dortmund.
He has 29 goals and 22 assists in 121 appearances for Dortmund.
He can also play across the front line and could play centre-forward for Amorim to help ease the pressure on Sesko’s shoulders. Being supported by the likes of Mbeumo could make Adeyemi a solid signing. If United can keep themselves in the top-for conversation then convincing the player to make the move could be easier too.
