Why Florent Ghisolfi chose Sunderland as his next project
Sunderland face Fulham in the Premier League next weekend
Fulham have confirmed that striker Rodrigo Muniz will undergo surgery in the coming days, ruling him out of next weekend’s Premier League clash against Sunderland.
The Brazilian has featured seven times for Marco Silva’s men in the top flight so far this season, scoring one goal and assisting one more. His most recent outing came in a drab 2-0 defeat at the hands of Everton just prior to the international break, entering the fray just before the hour mark, only to be replaced shortly after after succumbing to an apparent hamstring injury.
To that end, Fulham have provided an update on Muniz’s fitness status ahead of their upcoming fixture against Sunderland at Craven Cottage, with the 24-year-old expected to be out of action for a notable period of time.
A statement from the club’s official website reads: “The club can provide an update on Rodrigo Muniz’s injury. Rodrigo underwent scans and the club sought specialist opinion following our game at Everton last weekend. He will have surgery to his hamstring over the coming days, and is expected to return to action early in the New Year. Everyone at Fulham wishes Rodrigo all the very best for his surgery and during his rehabilitation.”
What is the latest Fulham news ahead of their upcoming Sunderland clash?
Elsewhere, Sunderland are set to travel to West London with speculation mounting over the future of their hosts’ head coach, Marco Silva. According to reports, the Cottagers are “weighing up” his role at the club amid apparent concerns over poor form and his unwillingness to commit to a new contract.
As per talkSPORT, a decision could be made on Silva’s tenure sooner rather than later, with an excerpt from the national title’s article on the matter stating: “As it stands the Portuguese will be a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the season. Silva has never been shy to voice his frustration over the club’s lack of spending and admitted he ‘expected more’ from their summer transfer window.
“It is thought the Fulham hierarchy are also concerned the Cottagers could be dragged into a relegation battle after Saturday’s limp 2-0 defeat at Everton left them a point above the bottom three.”

This fresh update comes just weeks after Fulham owner Shahid Khan insisted that Silva was part of his long-term thinking in West London, explaining in an interview with talkSPORT: "He’s been great. I really like him, not only as a person, [but] as a football manager, head coach. Definitely, I think he’s in our long-term plans."
