Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has hardly relied upon Victor Lindelöf in the Premier League this season.
The Sweden international left Manchester United as a free agent at the end of last season and waited until summer deadline day to join Aston Villa. This saw him miss September’s international break before returning to the squad in October.
Lindelöf has played 181 minutes from six matches for Aston Villa of which 21 are from the league. He hasn’t featured in the Premier League since October 5th but still made it to Graham Potter’s list for November’s fixtures.
On Friday, Fotbollskanalen reported the 31-year-old missed training. Sweden press officer Petra Thorén was unsure whether he’d be available to face Switzerland on Saturday.
Another report from Fotbollskanalen again points out the Aston Villa player didn’t train on Friday. He was working with physiotherapists in the gym.
They also relay comments from Potter, who confirmed Lindelöf will miss today’s World Cup qualifier due to discomfort.
Potter remains hopeful the centre-back will be fit on time to face Slovenia on Tuesday.
“He’s not injured. He had a slight discomfort yesterday [Thursday], so we decided that it is better for him not to play tomorrow [Saturday], but hopefully he can play on Tuesday,” he said.
Whether the Villa player will be fit for Sweden’s next clash remains to be seen.
