The arrival of Rob Edwards caused quite the stir when he switched a rising Middlesbrough side for a struggling Wolves team.
The former Wales international’s history with the Molineux side certainly played a role in his decision, and for Rob Edwards, it was a managerial job he simply could not turn down.
When Wolves came calling, the decision was clear for Rob Edwards
“Wolves is a special club for me. It’s where I grew as both a player and a coach, it’s where my family calls home. It has always been my dream to come back and these opportunities do not come around too often.”
His time as both a player and also as a coach working with the academy allowed him to build relationships with those working at Wolves, and it appears that those days of old will benefit him.
Fans had quite a mixed reaction to Edwards’ appointment, but the buzz inside the club is reportedly building positively for the new hire.

Anticipation for Rob Edwards’ first game in charge is no doubt building, and while this season has not gone to plan, fans will be looking forward to returning to Premier League action to see his style in action.
The new Wolves boss likes to excite with his football, and that could be of benefit for one Old Gold star.
However, his style is not the only thing that will bring excitement, as those he will be working alongside seem to be looking forward to the new era under Edwards.

Wolves’ head of performance Phil Hayward has been speaking about the head coach after his appointment, and internally, it seems there are only positives for him.
Hayward said, via the Express and Star, “There’s definitely a lot of excitement here amongst the staff, both ones who’ve known and worked with him before, but then also ones who haven’t have heard good things about him from his time here before. I think a lot of people are excited to get working with him.
“Everyone’s going to want to do absolutely everything they can to try and get the most out of this playing group, to try and get us where we need to be, which is obviously a lot higher up the table than we are at the moment.”

Hayward has previously hailed Edwards for his people skills and believes he will improve not only the players but also the staff around him.
However, while the staff are onside, Edwards will have quite a bit of work to do to get the fans on board too.
There are many who have not been inspired by his arrival, and despite his previous history with the club, he’ll have to rely on more than just past relationships to succeed.
Rob Edwards needs to start off strong with Wolves
Rob Edwards has not been handed an easy run of games by any means.
His first match in charge is against Crystal Palace, and the Eagles have been in great form this season, losing just twice across the opening 11 games.
However, Edwards will be thrilled that his first game is in front of the home crowd, and the excitement for a new head coach can make the atmosphere at Molineux loud and difficult to play in for any away side.
Whether or not Wolves manage to get a result, Edwards simply has to showcase some positivity for fans and leave them believing things can be different under his tenure.
Starting off strong does not mean the Old Gold need to win, but rather, they need to start looking like a cohesive side who can start picking up results.
So far this season, they have been far from that team, and the latest Opta projection is bad reading for Wolves fans.
