The Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers face off in Week 11 as brothers Justin and Patrick Herbert battle for the first time in their professional careers. Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in football and one of the biggest names in the game, but not many people realized his brother was also in the league.
Jags TE Patrick Herbert on playing against his brother Justin Herbert: "It's awesome. I think we kinda take it for granted sometimes looking at him and being like, 'oh he's been in the league for 5-6 years' or whatever. I think it's a big accomplishment. That's so cool." pic.twitter.com/kby95Y0V9k

Jaguars TE Patrick Herbert Speaks on Playing Against Brother, Chargers QB Justin Herbert
Making it to the NFL is an unbelievable accomplishment in and of itself, and having the talent to even sniff this level of competition requires elite physical traits and abilities. To paraphrase the all-time basketball legend Brian Scalabrine, Patrick Herbert is a lot closer to being Rob Gronkowski than anyone reading this is to being Patrick Herbert.
With that being said, there’s a reason most people didn’t know Justin Herbert had a brother in the National Football League. Originaly joining the Oregon Football program in 2019, Patrick Herbert spent one year playing alongside his older brother but didn’t make a name for himself until the 2023 season. Even then, the tight end was nothing more than a blocker who occasionally caught passes, as he finished his career with 31 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns.
Receiving minimal interest in the pre-draft process, Patrick Herbert went undrafted and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars following the 2025 NFL Draft. After spending the offseason battling for a spot on the 53-man roster, the rookie ultimately didn’t make the active roster. Jacksonville signed him to the practice squad, and he has yet to play a snap of regular season football.
So, while Justin and Patrick Herbert will technically play against each other this Sunday, the odds of both brothers suiting up are slim to none. This game will probably have playoff implications, however, as the Chargers and Jaguars are both fighting for a Wild Card spot in a competitive AFC.
