Every major club knows the value of spotting talent early.
That is why tournaments like the Under-17 World Cup attract so much attention. Scouts travel across continents.
They look for players who can fit a long-term plan.
They look for technique, confidence, and consistency in tough games.
For Liverpool, this search has become more intense as the club prepares for its next cycle.
The competition for young talent is real.
European clubs now move faster, and South American prospects are being tracked almost weekly.
When one name starts appearing in several notebooks at once, it usually means something is happening behind the scenes.
Liverpool find themselves in that familiar situation again.
And this time, the focus is on a teenager from Gremio’s academy.
Midfielder Gabriel Mec is widely regarded as Gremio’s most promising youngster.
He is currently representing Brazil at the Under-17 World Cup, and his games have drawn the attention of several European sides.
According to information first released by journalist Kaliel Dorneles of Rádio Bandeirantes, three clubs – Zenit, Porto, and Liverpool – have already requested details about the player’s contract.
Dorneles said on his YouTube channel that “Liverpool’s scouts are watching him closely in Qatar,” noting that there is “no formal offer yet but clear interest in keeping tabs on his development.”
The interest is not new.
Chelsea were close to signing him last year before the deal collapsed in the final stages.
Shakhtar Donetsk even submitted a €13m (£11.3m) bid recently, but the midfielder turned down the move.
His contract with Gremio runs until June 2027, and his release clause for foreign clubs is €50m (£43m).
Inside Brazil, Gremio expect at least €20m (£17m) in a future sale.
Mec plays mainly as an attacking midfielder.
He is fast, technical, and comfortable with both feet.
Liverpool are tracking him because they believe his profile fits their rebuild.
The next months will show if monitoring becomes a formal push.
