Youri Tielemans has revealed Aston Villa have limited how much he can play for Belgium in this international break.
Voetbal Primeur cover comments from the Aston Villa midfielder today. He’s been speaking ahead of Belgium’s clashes with Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein.
The midfielder is in the Red Devils squad for those games, despite missing a number of games for Aston Villa this season with a calf injury.
He has only managed 349 minutes for Aston Villa in all competitions to date as they’ve been careful with his return from that injury. he last started a game on September 13th, the 0-0 draw with Everton. And he only made his return on November 6th, coming on as a substitute against Maccabi Tel Aviv.
That’s not stopped Belgium from including him in their squad for these World Cup qualifiers, though. That’s largely due to Tielemans being their captain, after being handed the role earlier this year on a permanent basis.
How much he plays, remains to be seen. But it seems Aston Villa have made their stance clear on that point regardless.
“I feel good. I’ve had a period of absence where I was really able to reset my body, and that’s been good for me,” he said.
“So now I’m ready, I feel 100 percent. It’s true that Aston Villa gave certain instructions about the playing time I would get. But that’s logical; there’s always consultation.”
