Liechtenstein v Wales : Ethan gets the nod, permutations for Craig
Saturday, 15th Nov 2025 11:18 by Swansea Independent
Ethan Ampadu gets the captains armband this evening in Liechtenstein (5pm) for the penultimate World Cup Qualifier before the play offs in March. Wales have reached the play offs but will be looking for two wins or at least second place with a heavy win today and a draw to get a favourable semi final play off tie.
First place isn’t exactly unreachable (see below) but the Nations League group win with some stunning performances has ensured the journey to next years World Cup will run to at least March. Ampadu who will earn his 59th cap for Wales today at twenty five years of age was always going to head coach, Craig Bellamy’s first choice, “I didn’t give it a second thought. Look at how many caps he has, how many games he’s played. He’s not your normal 25-year-old. He’s a smart human being and I see it as normal progression.”
Endorsement of his upward trajectory is needed this evening. Wales would love a 6-0 win which would mean a draw on Tuesday against North Macedonia would suffice for second place. It’s that tight for qualification and a home play off draw.
⚽️ FAW - The best case scenario ? Well, should Belgium take just a point or less from their final two games against Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein, and Wales win their two remaining games, Bellamy’s team would top the group and qualify automatically without the need for a March play-off. We can dream.
Three thousand Wales followers will be at the game and a good few more in areas throughout the ground. We will have updates throughout today on the Indy.
Teams later.
