Dermot Desmond identifies number one Celtic boss target, pundit in brutal claim over Wolves…

Is Kevin Thelwell on borrowed time at Rangers?

Here are some of the latest headlines when it comes to both Rangers and Celtic.

It might be the international break but there are still talking points aplenty when it comes to Rangers and Celtic.

The Hoops are hunting a new gaffer with Martin O’Neill still at the helm on an interim basis, following Brendan Rodgers’ shock resignation. Candidates have been murmured near and far but they will hope it’s a process that comes to conclusion sooner rather than later.

Rangers, meanwhile, are looking to give new head coach Danny Rohl the best chance of success, after three straight leagues wins. With updates on the next Celtic boss chase and a pundit’s scathing verdict on a Wolves loanee and two of his Ibrox teammates, here are the latest headlines on both sides of the Old Firm.

Who is next Celtic manager favourite?

It’s been claimed that major shareholder Dermot Desmond has identified Wilfried Nancy as his Celtic manager favourites, with talks now ramped up to bring the Columbus Crew boss into Parkhead. The Hoops face St Mirren in Paisley on November 22nd. The Daily Record state: “Celtic are in advanced talks to land Wilfried Nancy as new boss.

“Record Sport can reveal the Columbus Crew head coach is Parkhead powerbroker Dermot Desmond’s No.1 target – and discussions with club chiefs are planned for this weekend with a view to nailing down a deal. Desmond agreed to wait until Crew’s MLS campaign was over but ramped up the chase on the back of their play-off exit last weekend.

“The Hoops have remained in touch with several candidates but Nancy has been top of the wishlist from day one, with the Irish tycoon Desmond originally reaching out to Nancy last month in the wake of Brendan Rodgers’ shock departure. The former Montreal boss has been sold on the switch and it’s understood is also keen to bring his own backroom team, with no.2 Kwame Ampadu part of the deal, while the contract today could decide whether current coaches such as Shaun Maloney and Stevie Woods will remain part of the new regime.”

Wolves loanee and Rangers duo slammed

Derek Ferguson reckons Rohl will be unable to get Rangers back in the title race - due to defenders he has available. He has named Wolves loanee Nasser Djiga plus experienced duo James Tavernier and John Souttar as weak points, in new bold claims. Ferguson told Ibrox News when asked if his ex-side can close the gap at the top of the league: “No, I don’t. Rohl’s inherited a bomb scare in terms of that defensive setup.

“Individually, it’s clear to see they’re not good enough – and indeed collectively. Rohl’s been cute in changing to a back five, but you look at them and they don’t look solid. They look as though they lack in confidence and they know they’re going to concede. Their body language is also quite alarming at times.

“I’m thinking of Nasser Djiga, James Tavernier, John Souttar. If you’re a midfielder or a striker and you’re relying on those behind you, it doesn’t inspire you and give you confidence. That is Danny Rohl’s Achilles heel. Until he sorts that, there’s no chance of going on a winning run like that.”
