Defender Wesley Fofana has been plagued by injuries since joining Chelsea from Leicester City in a £75 million transfer in the summer of 2022.
Fofana has been absent for an astonishing 117 games for club and country since moving to Stamford Bridge, including missing the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs.
He has been luckier with his fitness this term, with the four games he has missed coming as a result of concussion protocol.
Fofana has vowed to make amends for lost time and help Chelsea achieve further success this season, having missed on their recent triumphs.
He told chelseafc.com: “I want more because I missed out. I am more concentrated on that. I want to feel those experiences and those moments. I am completely focused on that.
“Of course I want to make up for lost time, but you can’t get the time you missed back. It’s part of my life and my story, and it makes me hungrier to win.
“Now it’s important we stay together because it’s a long season as well. We have a lot of competitions to play for, and the objective is to go as far as we can in all of them and fight for everything. And my objective is just to stay with the team, and fight for everything with the team.”
Manager Enzo Maresca rates the 24-year-old highly, with Fofana starting six of the seven games he has played across all competitions this term.
Maresca will be hoping that he stays fit, particularly with fellow centre-back Levi Colwill set to spend most of the campaign on the sidelines, recovering from an ACL injury.
