Leeds United striker Mateo Joseph says his future is out of his hands after admitting he has no plans to return to Elland Road. The 22-year-old forward is currently on a season-long loan deal at Mallorca, where he would like to stay beyond this season.

Joseph struggled to assert his presence under manager Daniel Farke and became a bit-part player last season as the club won promotion from the Championship to the Premier League. As such, the young Spanish forward requested a summer exit and got his wish, albeit on a temporary one-year loan deal back to Spain.

The deal is structured purely for a season, with no obligation to buy, meaning the striker will return to Elland Road at the end of the campaign. Good form for Mallorca could convince the La Liga outfit to buy the forward, although Leeds will surely seek a significant fee for the player.

Joseph admits he would like to stay at Mallorca, but knows much of that will depend on his own form. "I'm very happy here. But well, you never know, I'd say it doesn't really depend on me right now, but we'll see," he told Spanish newspaper Marca, when addressing his future.

“I’m feeling great. This year I’m trying to pay a little more attention to the details, like my diet and everything. I’m very happy because it seems I’ve finally found the right formula.

“In the end, Mallorca did an exceptional job [pitching to me], both the sporting director and the manager.

“They conveyed the confidence they had in me, and that convinced me from the very beginning. They knew me very well and had a lot of faith in me, and I want to repay that confidence.

"I firmly believe that the more things I do well, the more of what the manager asks of me, the closer I'll be to scoring goals.

“It's true that there was a time when I felt more stressed about it, but now I feel very good, I think I'm doing things right, and that's why I'm much closer to scoring goals, for sure.”
