MLB likes to see what other leagues are doing and try to copy them for more fan engagement in their league. One of the things that MLB has taken is the end of year awards in which they allow fans to vote for the “All-MLB team”, a clear reference to things like All-Pro in the NFL and All-NBA in the NBA. Allowing fans to vote for the players is certainly a choice, not letting the players do it for themselves, but that’s a different point.
In this, we had some Phillies get the call as second team All-MLB players, but it’s weird that Cristopher Sanchez did not make it to the top.
We’re splitting hairs with this, of course, since All-MLB must be an honor for the players that are chosen….but second team? Really? Jhoan Duran was rightly recognized, but not having the NL Cy Young runner up as part of the first team seems off.
**Did the fans get this one right?** Shouldn’t Sanchez be ahead of pitchers like Max Fried and Yoshinobu Yamamoto? Again, we’re talking about this as if there are contract incentives tied to it, but add this to the insult of Sanchez not making the All-Star team and it seems as though the disrespect of Sanchez is growing.
