Wolves are expected to be active in the January window as they look to find solutions to some key weaknesses in their team

Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers are already making plans for the January window as they try and respond to what has been a calamitous start to the campaign.

The Old Gold, who recently swapped manager Vitor Pereira for Rob Edwards, are winless with two points from 11 matches and are already eight points away from safety. No club has ever come back from such a position to survive but Wolves are desperately trying to do everything they can to give themselves hope of being the first.

The January transfer window could dictate Wolves’ status as a top-flight club, and based on recent reports they've already made one thing clear and that’s that they need to sign a goalkeeper.

Wolves make loan offer for Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas

According to Il Messaggero, Wolves have made a loan offer for out-of-favour Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas. The Greek international has been the subject of interest from the Old Gold for more than 12 months and is believed to be someone that both Gary O’Neil and Vitor Pereira admired.

Mandas is a 24-year-old Greek international. He’s represented Ivan Jovanović’s side on two occasions but has aspirations of becoming his nation’s top goalkeeper.

The Piraeus-born shot-stopper made a name for himself at Atromitos in the top-flight of Greek football and also played for OFI Crete on a fairly regular basis before joining Lazio. Since moving to Italy, he’s made 32 appearances in total, conceding 27 times and keeping 12 clean sheets. He’s competed in the Europa League and has earned plaudits for a number of steady displays. However, only 18 of his appearances have come in the league over the course of two seasons and he’s never been able to establish himself as the first choice in Serie A under Maurizio Sarri in both of his two stints in charge.

He’s been coveted by Wolves for a while now and is believed to only be valued at around half the amount he was worth in the summer. That figure, according to our reports, was around £25m, meaning if the new information is correct, he’ll be available for roughly £12.5m.

Wolves lack stability in the goalkeeping department - Christos Mandas could change that

Throughout the last two seasons, Wolves have suffered from a myriad of problems. One of the most prominent has been the fact that they lack stability between the posts, with managers often rotating between Jose Sa and Sam Johnstone.

Christos Mandas has been monitored by Wolves for a while and could potentially be the man to bring some stability and calmness to an underperforming backline. His record in Italy is fairly good, he’s approaching his peak years at 24 and has ambitions of working his way into the Greek national team as the undisputed number one.
