Manchester City Women secured the three points and the bragging rights as they demolished local rivals Manchester United 3-0 in the Women's Super League on Saturday.
City made a rapid start to the contest but were unable to find a breakthrough as United slowly found a foothold in the game. The deadlock was finally broken shortly after the halfway point in the opening 45 minutes, with Khadija Shaw nodding Lauren Hemp's delivery across for Rebecca Knaak to head home.
Leah Galton had a half-hearted appeal for a penalty waved away as United searched for an equaliser and City took full control as they doubled their advantage just two minutes before the break. United felt there was a foul in the build-up to the goal but the referee wasn't interested and Kerstin Casparij delivered for Shaw to prod home.
The game was effectively ended as a contest before the interval as some sloppy play from United handed possession back to City. Hemp took full advantage as she fired a brilliant effort into the top corner to make it 3-0 to the home side.

United enjoyed a lot of possession in the second half as they did everything they could to find a way back into the game, but ultimately they found themselves up against a solid City backline who gave nothing away.
Jade Rose and Simi Awujo clashed heads late on in the game and a lengthy stoppage took place as the pair received treatment. The former was cleared to return to the action while Awujo took her place on the United bench.
The win saw City stretch their lead at the top of the table to four points, with United remaining in third place, three points adrift of Chelsea in second.
