Manchester City saw two of their senior players receive heavy criticism in Portugal after the 2-0 defeat to Ireland, with both [O Jogo](http://ojogo.pt) and [A Bola](http://abola.pt) handing out some of the lowest ratings of the night.
Rúben Dias got 3/10 from each newspaper, while Bernardo Silva got 4/10 from O Jogo and 3/10 from A Bola. Only Cristiano Ronaldo scored worse than the Cityzen pair, with 2/10.
O Jogo were particularly harsh on Dias. They wrote: ‘_A night to forget or to reflect on. Very poor in defence, he failed spectacularly in both goals. He was more seen making crosses than preventing Ireland from scoring.’_
The outlet placed him among the weakest performers on the pitch and highlighted costly mistakes in key moments.
Bernardo’s display drew criticism as well. Both newspapers described his influence as “limited”. The ratings reflect a wider sentiment in the local press, which portrayed Portugal’s performance as flat, predictable and lacking urgency.
Portugal missed the chance to secure an early place at the 2026 World Cup, and the defeat increased the pressure ahead of the final fixtures.
Manchester City can only hope that both players return from international duty with renewed focus and confidence.
