Kevin Mac Allister made his debut for Argentina yesterday.
The two Mac Allister brothers were given the chance for the very first time in their careers to play together for Argentina as they faced Angola last night.
The reigning World Cup champions ran out 2-0 victors thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi.
Alexis Mac Allister started the fixture in Angola, a friendly that was organised to celebrate Angola’s 50th anniversary of independence from Portugal.
Kevin Mac Allister came on with half an hour remaining, and the brothers played round twenty-five minutes together before the Liverpool midfield maestro was taken off five minutes from time.
Handed his first international appearance at the age of 28 by Lionel Scaloni, it represents the latest encounter that the Mac Allister have shared a football pitch together, after Liverpool faced Union Saint Gilloise in the Europa League in 2023.
Following the game, Alexis Mac Allister was understandably emotional, and he paid a heartfelt tribute to sharing the pitch with his brother on the international stage for the very first time.
Via TyC Sports, he said: “For me, seeing him is the most beautiful thing.”
“I know very well everything he fought for to get to this place, everything he dreamed of. The fact that he’s making his debut today makes me very happy.”
“I think it’s been a very positive week for him, and well, that’s the most important thing.”
After being involved in the Argentina set-up for the first time, Kevin will be looking to retain his place in the squad and hopefully head to the World Cup next year with his country, which is set to take place across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Alexis Mac Allister, despite being younger, is a seasoned international for Argentina now, with a particular highlight coming in the 2022 World Cup Final in Qatar, where Liverpool’s No.10 set up Angel Di Maria to open the scoring against France.
