Steph Curry Sends Strong Message About Surprising Personal Decision

The Golden State Warriors are coming off a thrilling 109-108 victory on Friday night, marking their second win in a three-day span over the San Antonio Spurs-both games headlined by one player: Stephen Curry.

On Wednesday, Curry erupted for 46 points, five rebounds, and five assists. On Friday, he topped that performance with 49 points, four rebounds, and two assists, all while debuting a surprising new look.

This week, Curry made the personal decision to mutually end his longtime partnership with Under Armour, a company that has featured him as one of its premier athletes for years. While his contract with the brand runs through 2026, he has no restrictions and is free to sign elsewhere at any time. Against San Antonio, Curry was seen wearing Nike shoes during the game.

He was rocking the Kobe 6 "Mambacita" sneakers, a tribute to Kobe Bryant's daughter, Gianna.

Curry will retain all rights to his popular "Splash" logo, which has appeared on his signature sneakers over the years. After the Warriors' win, he opened up about his departure from Under Armour, making it clear he's now a sneaker "free agent."

"I'm a free agent. I'm at a new beginning,” Curry said postgame. “I'm blessed to have the opportunity to take a chance on something that's meant a lot to me over the last 13 years. I'm really proud of myself, my team, and everyone who's been part of that business. We all should be proud of what we accomplished.

"I'm excited about the future. This is just in the best interest of both sides. The sneaker industry is tough, and things change over time. You give your best to keep something sustainable. I'm a little disappointed with how it turned out based on where the Curry Brand has been the last five years, but I think it's the right move for everyone."

Curry also spoke about the significance of paying tribute to Kobe and Gianna Bryant with his choice of Nike sneakers-particularly the pair honoring Gianna, who passed away alongside Kobe and seven others in a helicopter crash in 2020.

"But just the idea of what he meant… I've talked about Kobe a lot, but that specific pair, I think it speaks for itself," Curry said. "Other than that, I just wanted to take advantage of that moment and pay tribute. I think it gave me some good energy tonight."
