The Chicago Bears received encouraging news regarding their defensive backfield ahead of a critical NFC North showdown with the Minnesota Vikings. After weeks of monitoring the injury report, cornerback Jaylon Johnson returned to practice as the team opened his 21-day window from injured reserve.
The development comes at a crucial point in the season, with the Bears facing three consecutive division leaders. NFL insider Ari Meirov reported the transaction just days before Sunday’s matchup in Minneapolis.
“Big news for Chicago: The Bears are designating star CB Jaylon Johnson to return from IR. He will start practicing today,” Meirov wrote on X.

Chicago’s final injury report listed Johnson as a limited participant, leaving his availability for Sunday uncertain. He carries a questionable designation heading into the weekend.
Johnson has been sidelined since aggravating a groin injury during the Bears’ 52-21 loss to the Detroit Lions on September 14. The issue required core muscle surgery and had bothered him throughout the offseason before escalating during the regular season.
The procedure was necessary to address the underlying problem that had limited his effectiveness. The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback has compiled 216 tackles and seven interceptions across 71 career starts since Chicago selected him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
One of those interceptions resulted in a touchdown return. Johnson has appeared in only one game this season due to the injury and is expected to need additional weeks before reaching full capacity.
The Bears enter Sunday with a 6-3 record but face a demanding stretch. After the Minnesota Vikings, they host the Pittsburgh Steelers and travel to face the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.
