On Saturday morning, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that New Orleans was firing head coach Willie Green aftera 2-10 start. James Borrego will serve as the interim.
The Pelicans dealt with injuries to start the year, but they were also woeful even when healthy. They became the first team in league history to lose three of their first six games by 30-plus points. They also gave up at least 120 points in the first five games of the season, a franchise record.
It was a roster set up to fail by a front office that has the argument for the most incompetent in the league. Not only do they not own their first round pick this year, but they also traded away the Pacers first round pick during last postseason. As things stand, those would be two of the top four picks.
The Lakers will get a number of looks at the new-look Pelicans, including fair soon as New Orleans will visit LA on Nov. 30. In total, the two teams will play four times this season.
