NEW ORLEANS, La. (WLBT) - The New Orleans Pelicans have fired head coach Willie Green after a 2-10 start to the season, the team announced on Saturday.
The Pelicans got off to an abysmal 0-6 start, and injuries continued to plague the team. Star player Zion Williamson has played just five games so far this season due to a hamstring injury.
The Pelicans were the first team in NBA history to lose three of their first six games by at least 30 points. They also allowed at least 120 points in five straight games to start the year for the first time in franchise history, per ESPN stats.
Green was in his fifth season as the Pelicans’ head coach, finishing with a 150-190 record. He made playoff appearances with the team in 2021-2022 and 2023-2024.
Assistant James Borrego will serve as the Pelicans’ interim coach.
