Liverpool’s wait for clarity over Ibrahima Konate future continues, with the defender moving into the final months of his contract and discussions still unresolved behind the scenes.
As January approaches — when he will be eligible to speak with clubs abroad — Liverpool’s stance remains firm: they want the 26-year-old to stay.
But negotiations have dragged, and the noise around the situation has only grown.
Konate, who has been a central figure in Liverpool’s defensive setup over the last two seasons, finds himself at the centre of increasing speculation.
European giants are circling, Liverpool are pushing for a resolution, and supporters are left wondering why one of their most influential defenders has yet to commit.
What Konate feels about the process — and what he thinks has been misunderstood — only became clear when he addressed the situation himself.
When asked about the latest round of rumours while on international duty, Konate pushed for calm and rejected the claim that Liverpool had made a new contract offer in recent days.
“I’ve seen a lot of things in the press recently, like Liverpool have made me a new offer,” he said.
“I don’t know where that’s coming from.”
“My agents are continuing discussions with Liverpool.”
“I hope my decision will be made very soon so I can announce it.”
The defender, who will be free to negotiate a pre-contract from January 1, emphasized that nothing has been finalised and that talks with Liverpool remain active.
His comments bring some clarity — but also reinforce the reality that negotiations remain delicate.
Real Madrid and PSG have been monitoring the situation closely, and Liverpool know the window to secure an extension is tightening.
