Giants Potentially Replacing GM Joe Schoen Receives Major Update

The New York Giants made a huge move to improve the team by firing Brian Daboll. Daboll posted a 20-40-1 record in three and a half seasons, leading to his inevitable exodus. Though Daboll is out, the organization has not parted ways with general manager Joe Schoen; however, the potential of that has received a major update.

Schoen has been a polarizing general manager for the Giants. He is responsible for bringing in Jaxson Dart, who is all the rage. However, he also let Saquon Barkley walk to the Philadelphia Eagles, which led to a championship.

The usual case for teams is to clean house so that a new general manager and head coach with a similar plan can work in tandem to turn things around. While fans have called for Schoen to be next on the chopping block, that appears not to be the case.

NFL insider Dianna Russini reported that not only will the Giants “review” Schoen at the end of the 2025 season, but there is reports that the team will retain him through the 2026 season.

“I'm also told there haven't been any serious meetings yet between ownership and GM Joe Schoen about the traits they want in the next head coach, though Schoen is leading the search. He's on a five-year deal set to expire after 2026, so long-term certainty isn't guaranteed. Schoen will get a full review at the end of the season, as John Mara and Giants brass evaluate the best course of action for the future of the organization. Still, most around the league think Schoen will be safe because of how highly he's regarded by ownership,” Russini wrote.

Russini’s report is a rumor and nothing has been corroborated, but it would not be the least bit shocking if John Mara kept Schoen. Despite some very questionable moves, he is highly regarded in the organization.

The fact that Schoen is also leading the charge in finding a new head coach further proves that the team is likely to keep him as well. It would be a bit strange for the Giants to entrust Schoen to find the team’s next head coach, only to suffer being fired at the end of the search.

As stated, Dart is a major factor for Schoen and the search for the next head coach, as he possesses the kind of raw talent that would be a dream to mold for most head coaches. Though his tough-running style has landed him on IR with a concussion, he has shown he can be built around for the future.

There is no telling what may happen at the end of the 2025 season, but it appears the Giants are only half-resetting by firing Daboll.
