Former NBA star Patrick Beverley was arrested on assault charges in Texas on Friday, November 14, according to FOX 26.
The outlet reported that Beverley was charged with assault family violence/household impending breath, an enhancement charge meaning Beverley allegedly choked or impeded the breathing of another person. His bond was set at $40,000.
He posted bond on Friday, according to FOX 26, and was released.
The charge, a third-degree felony, is punishable by two to 10 years in prison in Texas.
Beverley took to social media after the incident on Friday night, seemingly disputing the charges.
"Please don't believe everything you see on the internet," Beverley posted via his X account. "Hope all is well Luv."
Later, he posted a statement on X, adding context to the situation and the charges.
"Patrick Beverley has no criminal record," the statement said. "He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor. Given that, when he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister. However, we don't believe what followed happened the way it's been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court."
Beverley asked his followers for prayers in a caption on the social media post.
"Yal Pray for the Fam," he posted. "Luv."
According to the FOX 26 report, officers responded to a reported assault at Beverley's home in Fort Bend. The sheriff's office said they found a violent incident had happened between family members.
Beverley played 12 years in the NBA, spending most of his seasons with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. He also had stints with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers and finally the Milwaukee Bucks.
While the 6-foot-2 guard has not yet officially retired, he last played in the NBA during the 2023-24 season.
He was suspended by the NBA on May 4, 2024 after twice throwing a basketball at a fan during the Bucks' first-round playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers. Beverley has not yet served the suspension.
Beverley has been dabbling in podcasting as well, most recently co-hosting the show, "Hoopin' N Hollerin" with fellow former NBA player Jason Williams.
In response to a comment on the Tuesday, November 11, episode of the show, NBA star Klay Thompson had to defend his girlfriend, Megan Thee Stallion, after Williams described her in a derogatory way to Beverley.
"Referring to my GF as a ‘p****' is so disgusting and disturbing," said the Dallas Mavericks star on the show's Instagram page on Wednesday, November 12. "Especially from someone who played in the NBA. How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way ? @patbev21."
"Do better fellas," he added. "Very disappointing."
On the episode, Williams, 49, suggested that his relationship with the rapper could be the reason for Thompson's struggles early on this season.
"I'm from West Virginia, man, I've been taught a lot from old folks, old white folks," he said. "It only takes one p**** to drag a battleship across the desert. That's how powerful it is."
"Klay Thompson, I ain't sayin' that's what it is," he continued, "but that might be what it is."
Thompson and Megan seemingly hard-launched their relationship via Instagram in July.
