With the expectation that the Denver Broncos will lose running back JK Dobbins for multiple weeks due to a brutal foot injury, the team may target veteran Ezekiel Elliott for depth. Several news media outlets reported that Dobbins will miss time and likely go on IR, potentially missing more than a month of football. It’s not the news that the Broncos want, even though they’re 8-2 and atop of their AFC West division, but rookie RJ Harvey will be taking over as the primary contributor for the team’s ground game. Unfortunately, the injury bug continues to suck the blood of Dobbins, but that means they should call for help in free agency with a veteran who has experience.
Broncos Could Sign Free Agent Ezekiel Elliott After JK Dobbins Injury
The Broncos could pursue the idea of looking into Elliott. At age 30, the veteran might not be the same massive workhorse like he once was, but he’s still available for a few solid seasons. They can’t afford to lean on the shoulder of Harvey too hard, who is still adjusting to the professional league. With Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin luckily there to back up Harvey, they’re not the experienced backs that the Broncos should rely on.
The former three-time Pro Bowler has the size and physicality to run a 1-2 punch with Harvey. However, there are teams out there that could be looking into Elliott before the postseason since his last practice squad stint with the Los Angeles Chargers.
