As the Spurs climb to the top of the conference, currently sitting at 8-4, the structure of Head Coach Mitch Johnson's rotation will begin to tighten. The trial period of this team is over; the Spurs have one goal in mind.
With playoff seeding now at stake, Johnson can no longer afford to make any errors. One of those errors has already been corrected. Bismack Biyombo is a well-liked and savvy veteran with experience throughout the league.
The big man has compiled 15 seasons in the NBA, and in several of those, he has played meaningful minutes. But unfortunately, his time in the spotlight is all but over. Mitch Johnson has come to the conclusion that the veteran no longer has it and is hurting this team more than he has helped it.
Bismack Biyombo no longer belongs in a playoff caliber rotation
---------------------------------------------------------------
The journeyman made his first appearance in Silver and Black last season when they desperately needed big man help. Without Victor Wembanyama post-All-Star break, the Spurs would do anything for a shred of competence at the center position. That's when they turned to free agent Bismack Biyombo.
In his stint, Biyombo played in 28 games and started in 26 of them. He averaged 5.1 points and 5.6 rebounds over the course of his stay. While it was nice to have somebody on board who knows how to play the position, his contributions weren't especially effective.
In an ode to his services the previous season, the big man played in each of the Spurs' first five games of the 2025-26 season. However, it only got worse from there. Biyombo failed to do much of anything in his time on the court. Now, his time with the Spurs is seemingly cut for good.
Biyombo is still a Spur, but likely won't play much going forward

While he remains on the team, Mitch Johnson has decided to move on from him. This was a decision that was long overdue. Collectively, we thank the veteran for his role in helping the Spurs through a difficult time and hope that his leadership bodes well with the young stars of the team.
Moving forward, the Spurs will capitalize on their [free agent signing of Luke Kornet](https://airalamo.com/celtics-fans-still-shambles-after-spurs-stole-secret-weapon) to help relieve Victor Wembanyama. The former Celtics' big man has done an excellent job on both sides of the ball, defending at a premium and slamming down alley-oops.
As the season rolls along, Mitch Johnson will continue to readjust and refine his rotation to maximize the strengths and weaknesses of this squad. Just recently, we saw long-time Spur [Jeremy Sochan get his minutes cut](https://airalamo.com/san-antonio-spurs-all-but-guaranteeing-jeremy-sochan-offseason-departure). It is clear that Johnson is not playing around and is doing whatever it takes to get the best from his team.
