Liverpool are being linked with a number of players ahead of the January transfer window amid their faltering Premier League form
Liverpool spent around £450m in the summer transfer window in what was an unprecedented few months of business for the Anfield club.
However, their host of new signings have struggled to hit the ground running and Liverpool find themselves eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal and out of the Carabao Cup.
They remain in a decent spot in the Champions League with three wins from their four matches, including victories over Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
With their struggles, a number of new players are being linked with moves to Merseyside ahead of the January transfer window. Questions have been raised about a number of the club’s new signings while there are concerns about the form of some well-established players.
Ibrahima Konate has been far from his best amid uncertainty over his long-term future while Mohamed Salah has struggled to meet his own high standards. With links to new players persisting, we have put together what Arne Slot’s new line-up might look out if reported deals are completed in January.
Goalkeeper and defence
Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Conor Bradley are set to stick around but doubts remain over Konate. He could leave for free in the summer and the Reds might consider replacing him in the winter.
Liverpool’s lack of long-terms options in central defence have left the Reds looking to the market for reliable reinforcements. One name who has cropped up is Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
According to a report from last week, the Reds are “already considering an offer that could be around 100 or 115 million euros to convince Inter.” The 115 million euro sum is worth £101m at the current exchange rate whole 100m euros is around £88m. It would see a defender coming into their prime replace Konate and ease concerns about him leaving in the summer.
The Reds also retain an interest in Marc Guehi.
Midfield and attack
Vitinha, who is under contract with PSG until 2029, is said to ‘fit the profile’ of midfielder Liverpool have been looking for since Thiago left the club last summer. PSG are ‘reluctant’ to part ways with the 25-year-old, as they view him as an ‘untouchable’ asset to their team.
However, the French champions could have their price, as an offer in the region €130 million (£115m) could be enough to tempt them into conversations about selling.
Semenyo has already registered six goals this season - the third most in the division behind the imperious Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago - while his tally of three assists also puts him joint second in the list of creative players in the division. Overall, Semenyo has nine goal contributions in 11 matches
Liverpool’s line-up if rumours are true: Alisson; Robertson, Van Dijk, Bastoni, Bradley; Vitinha, Gravenberch, Szoboszlai; Ekitike, Isak, Semenyo
