Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney has taken a big blow.

Spurs are keen to add a new striker to their ranks when the transfer window reopens on January 1. Richarlison has been underwhelming for yet another season, while Dominic Solanke has barely played under Thomas Frank. After making two appearances, Solanke suffered another ankle injury and underwent minor surgery last month. The Englishman’s return to action remains a mystery.

In addition, Randal Kolo Muani also got injured. The Frenchman suffered a jaw fracture in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United last weekend. Fortunately, he has escaped surgery, although Kolo Muani is set to be sidelined for several weeks. Thus, it is crystal clear why the north Londoners are keen to recruit a No.9.

West Ham, Everton make moves for Ivan Toney

As per recent reports, Tottenham are eager to bring Ivan Toney back to the Premier League in January. The prospect of returning to England also appeals to the player, who is determined to keep his hopes of earning a place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad alive. Thomas Frank is also believed to be keen on reuniting with the striker. However, Spurs aren’t the only club interested in Toney.

Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham United are also keeping tabs on the English striker’s situation at Al-Ahli. Toney has been a prolific goalscorer for Al-Ahli since joining from Brentford in 2024, and he has been in good touch this season. Yet, he was left out of England’s latest squad announced last week, which suggests how vital it is for him to be in the spotlight to get picked for the national team.

According to Football Insider, West Ham and Everton have made initial moves to sign Toney. Like Spurs, both clubs are in dire need of goalscorers and have fixed their sights on the ex-Brentford star.

“I think it’s well known that Tottenham are in the market for attacking reinforcements in January, whether that’s a wide forward or a number nine, that remains to be seen in the coming weeks and months,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.

“There’ll be no shortage of interest in somebody like Ivan Toney. You’ve got Tottenham who are interested.

“Everton and West Ham have both sounded out a possible move for Toney as well. The problem is the cost of any particular deal is going to be very expensive due to the wages that he’s on in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.

“It’s not an easy deal to do. I think the overall cost of the move will be pretty prohibitive for a deal to happen in January. Maybe in the summer it could be an easier deal to do.

“Maybe Tottenham might have to look elsewhere if they are to bring in attack and reinforcements in the January window.”

Thomas Frank must aim to bring Ivan Toney to Tottenham

Tottenham must push for Toney’s signature

Tottenham need a reliable, proven goalscorer to lead their attack, and Toney fits the bill perfectly. Having also played under Frank at Brentford, he knows the boss’ system very well and could quickly make an impact at Spurs if signed.

Now that Everton and West Ham have made early moves, the Lilywhites must take initiative and go for him. They could take advantage of the ‘Frank’ factor and lure him to N17. If Tottenham are ready to cover his hefty wages, Toney could be a strong addition to their roster.
