The Miami Dolphins will still be without right tackle Austin Jackson against the Washington Commanders.
Jackson returned to practice Wednesday after an extended stint on injured reserve due to an issue with his toe. He participated on a limited basis and was initially listed as doubtful before the Dolphins ultimately ruled him out Saturday morning. Expect Larry Borom to continue to start in Jackson’s place.
“It’s very important,” tackle Patrick Paul said of Jackson’s place in the lineup. “Austin, he’s one of the leaders in our room, and like you said, he’s been here for a while. Having him back in the fold just gives us another spark and gives us energy. He brings a lot to the game, and he’s a good leader on the field and off the field.”
The five-year veteran injured his toe during training camp, which caused him to miss the majority of the preseason. He returned for the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts — only to re-aggravate the injury towards the end of the game.
Jackson’s status should come as no surprise, considering coach Mike McDaniel doesn’t usually rush players back from injury, especially one that will have sidelined the former University of Southern California standout for 10 consecutive games. When he does return, however, expect the Dolphins’ run game to reach even further heights. Despite De’Von Achane’s rise to superstar status, Miami still ranks only 23rd in rushing offense.
With the Dolphins on a bye for Week 12, Jackson’s first chance to play will likely be Nov. 30 against the New Orleans Saints. His teammates, for one, cannot wait.
“My boy ‘Jack,’ he’s coming back,” center Aaron Brewer said. “It’s just amazing to have that vet back on the offensive line and the experience he has, I just can’t wait for him to get back out there and play with me again.”
