The Los Angeles Chargers improved to 7-3 with a 25-10 blowout victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, but received some troubling news in the process.
Star quarterback Justin Herbert appeared to pick up an ankle injury and was seen limping after the game. Head coach Jim Harbaugh provided a humorous injury update for his quarterback on Monday morning, though, that hinted the injury might not be too bad. “I do have an update on his physical status: He is still a beast,” Harbaugh said.
Herbert wasn’t too worried either.
“I just got rolled up. A little bit of pain but I thought we did a good job of talking about it on the sideline,” he said. “I came off and felt like I was safe and comfortable to go back out there.”
While Herbert wasn’t worried about the ankle injury, the NFL certainly was. After watching a star quarterback pick up an ankle injury on a hip drop tackle from Steelers pass-rusher Nick Herbig, the league responded with a $6,656 fine for the third-year pro.
“To protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures,” the league says of its punishment announcements every week.
Herbig was one of 24 players hit with a fine for their on-field conduct.
