Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley reacts to his arrest in Texas.

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley addressed the public for the first time following his arrest in Texas on a third-degree felony assault charge, pushing back on circulating reports and urging fans not to jump to conclusions.

Shortly after posting a $40,000 bail, Beverley posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) hinting that details surrounding the arrest had been misrepresented.

“Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾,” Beverley wrote, marking his first public comment since the incident.

TMZ Sports reported on Friday that Beverley assaulted a family or household member and impeded the person’s breath or circulation — a serious offense under Texas law. A court date has not yet been announced.

Attorney Says Beverley Acted Out of Concern for His Minor Sister

Beverley released a detailed statement disputing the allegations and describing a different version of events.

“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a young lady, a minor,” the statement read.

According to Beverley’s statement, the former Sixers guard arrived home unexpectedly to find his underage sister alone with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night.

“He was understandably concerned, as any brother would be about his sister,” the statement said. “However, we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described and we look forward to the opportunity to address that in court.”

Beverley’s Time With the 76ers Still Fresh for Philadelphia Fans

Beverley’s arrest comes less than a year after his stint with the 76ers, where he became a steady part of the rotation under then-head coach Nick Nurse.

The veteran guard averaged 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 32.1% from three. His short stint with the Sixers included a pair of big games — a career-high-tying 26 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals in a 125–116 loss to the Boston Celtics and a season-high 11 assists and 17 points against the Denver Nuggets.

During his time in Philadelphia, Beverley earned a reputation as a locker-room spark, providing vocal leadership and defensive intensity as the Sixers navigated injuries to Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Tobias Harris.

He was traded at the deadline to the Milwaukee Bucks for Cameron Payne, ending his brief but memorable run in Philadelphia.

Arrest Adds to a Series of Recent Controversies

Beverley has recently faced legal and disciplinary issues.

He remains subject to an unserved four-game NBA suspension stemming from a 2024 playoff incident in which he threw a basketball at Indiana Pacers fans in a heated altercation.

He is also facing a civil lawsuit from spectators involved in that altercation.

His post-NBA stint with Hapoel Tel Aviv ended abruptly following a team-issued suspension earlier this year.

The Texas arrest is the latest development in what has been a turbulent stretch for the 37-year-old guard.

Beverley’s arrest occurred shortly after he faced backlash for comments made on a podcast about Megan Thee Stallion and Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson for using crude language.

Beverley and former NBA guard Jason Williams used explicit language on the Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ Podcast, suggesting that dating a powerful woman can impact a player’s performance.

“Referring to my girlfriend as a ‘p*y’ is disgusting and disturbing,”** Thompson wrote. “How would y’all feel if I referred to your wives that way? Do better.”

What’s Next for the Former Sixers Guard?

It remains unclear whether Beverley’s legal situation will impact any potential NBA comeback. No team has signed him for the 2024–25 season.

For now, Beverley maintains that early reports mischaracterized the incident and insists that the complete facts will become clear in court.
