Landon Donovan has turned to wearing a wig after the former Everton star struggled to achieve his desired look with hair transplants. The American football great recently took to social media to enlist the help of his fans on how to rejuvenate his hairstyle.
Donovan, who made 22 appearances across all competitions for the Premier League side during two different stints, has struggled with a receding hairline throughout his footballing career. Despite his attempts to rectify the situation, it's been to no avail.
The ex-forward revealed that he has attempted several hair transplants to regain a full head of hair, but the failures have led him to explore other avenues instead. He updated his fans that he decided to get a wig and posted a video on X, which detailed the entire process, showing him having to shave the top of his head before the wig was glued on.
After the success of the wig, Donovan praised his supporters for their assistance in his hair journey and wrote: "After years of trying different methods, I’ve finally tried a hairpiece. I’ve been encouraged by your messages over the last few days.
"It’s allowed me to be vulnerable and open up about my experience and process. Thank you for all your messages of support!" In the video, a smiling Donovan showed off the hairpiece, which resulted in many positive messages from fans.

One X user wrote: "Think it looks great." A second commented: "The middle part where they shaved your head had me nervous for you. The final product looks great. Good for you! Years younger for sure."
His stints at Goodison Park occurred in 2010 and 2012, while he was contracted to the LA Galaxy. He netted twice and assisted nine goals, and despite his temporary stays in Merseyside, became a fan favourite.
Donovan made his final trip to the club's former ground this past summer, discussing his reverence for the ground and the loyal Toffees supporters. Speaking to Everton's official club website, he said: "I miss this place.
"When I walked through here the first time, I remember I got off the plane, it was a Cup game, I walked through the stadium to sit down and I got here at half-time. The ushers, the people in the car park and the fans, everybody walking through said, 'Hi Landon, welcome, great to have you'.
"I had never felt that before, I had never stepped a minute on the field so I could have been terrible, but they showed me that love and support from the beginning and I wanted to repay it.
"I just have so many fond memories, particularly night matches here, with the crowd absolutely boiling over and us scoring and beating big teams, all the giants here on night games here at Goodison. It makes me pretty emotional being here."
