Commanders vs. Dolphins: The matchup
The NFL Madrid Game features a pair of 3-7 teams looking to right their ships in the face of disappointing starts. The Commanders were struggling to back up the hype from last season’s run to the NFC Championship Game, but still got off to a 3-2 start prior to their current five-game losing streak. Washington continues to lean on backup quarterback Marcus Mariota with franchise player Jayden Daniels currently out with a shoulder injury. Mariota is 1-3 in four starts this season, most recently throwing for 213 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 10 loss to the Detroit Lions (44-22).
The Dolphins continue their bid to bounce back from a 1-6 start by winning two of their past three games, most notably a 30-13 win over the Buffalo Bills last weekend in Miami. De’Von Achane was a driving force in that upset victory — Miami was an 8.5-point underdog at home — with 174 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and a team-high six catches for 51 yards. Before that, the Dolphins had lost to the Baltimore Ravens (28-6) and beaten the Atlanta Falcons (34-10) on the road.
