The young German midfielder has failed to live up to early expectations so far.

It was seen as a real sign of intent from the reigning Premier League champions when they swatted away the likes of Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City to the signing of Florian Wirtz, one of the most talented midfielders on the planet.

However, since arriving on Merseyside, the 22-year-old hasn’t hit the ground running in a Reds shirt.

For Florian, it was always going to be difficult to adjust to a new league, a new life, a new way of playing football.

Despite the glaringly obvious low statistics in the goal contribution department, if you look beyond the numbers, Wirtz has been very much involved in the build-up play and has had some very good games in a Reds shirt.

There are glimmers of hope, and if he can begin to consistently put in similar performances to the one against Real Madrid in the Champions League this season, the pressure on him will soon be lifted.

Many German stars impress within the Bundesliga and then make the obvious choice to join the serial title winners in Bayern Munich.

However, Wirtz showed bravery and chose to forge a career for himself in the hardest league in the world.

Due to this early struggles though, it has left many wondering whether the midfielder now regrets moving to Liverpool, but that is a myth that Florian Wirtz’s dad has now dispelled.

Speaking to Koner Stadt-Anzeiger, he said: “Florian is a young man who wants to prove himself in a new environment, and less than a third of the season has been played.”

“So far, everything is going as expected; it’s a completely normal settling-in process, entirely independent of any transfer fee.”

“And if you look at the statistics more closely, you can see that Florian’s stats regarding his involvement in the game are already quite good; only assists and goals are still pending.”

“Florian consciously took a step to become an even better footballer. And he doesn’t regret it at all.”

“He’s doing well in Liverpool, he looks forward to every training session, and he’s settled in with the team. We’re 100 percent satisfied with how things are going so far.”
