Everton starlet Isaac Heath answered his manager’s call for more goals by grabbing another for loan side Accrington Stanley.

The 21-year-old is enjoying an impressive first taste of senior football after quickly bursting into the first team after his summer move. The opportunity came after Heath earned prominence with the Blues’ first team during pre-season.

His start to life at the Wham Stadium was a good one - the winger scored a stunning solo goal just three minutes into his Stanley debut after starting the club’s Vertu Trophy tie with Fleetwood Town.

Regular first team opportunities have followed and he scored one and created another in the 4-0 win over Swindon Town last month. Heath, Everton’s Under-21s player of last season, scored his second League Two goal on Saturday, converting a Shaun Whalley cross from close range to open the scoring in the 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers. After the game, manager John Doolan - himself a former Everton trainee - said he had challenged his attacking players to provide more goals and assists and felt his call had been answered.

It was the latest positive moment for Heath, who played against Stanley when David Moyes started Everton’s pre-season there this summer. He then joined the tour of the USA, earning minutes off the bench.

Reflecting on his loan spell last month, he said: “It's been good so far, but I feel I can definitely do more… The intensity has been a lot higher [than in the U21s] and there’s a lot more riding on the games. There’s definitely a lot more pressure going into the games, but it’s something that I enjoy experiencing.

“It’s been difficult at times, in terms of physicality. The ball’s definitely in the air a lot more so there are different parts of my game that I can improve on and I can definitely improve a lot on many different aspects, l definitely need to be a lot stronger when I’m playing against older players and players that are a lot stronger than me.”

Doolan has certainly been impressed, recently stating: “[He is] Quality… he’s learning all the time… he’s just learning his trade, he’s come out on his first loan, he’s excited everyone in all of the games he’s played.”

The win was a big one for Stanley, the three points moving the club above their opponent and towards the comfort of midtable while extending their unbeaten run to five across all competitions.
