Texans vs. Titans: The matchup

The Texans are 4-2 since opening the season with three straight losses, and they’re showing signs of life offensively after a sluggish start. Houston’s first win of the season came at home over these Titans via a 26-0 shutout where they held Cam Ward and the Tennessee offense to 175 total yards. That defense continues to be a strength for coach DeMeco Ryans, leading the NFL in total yardage (261.3 ypg) and scoring (16.7 ppg) while ranking fourth against the pass and second against the run. Last time out, backup quarterback Davis Mills led the Texans to a big AFC South Division win over the Jacksonville Jaguars (36-29) by throwing for 292 yards with three total touchdowns (one rush).

Similar to the 26-0 loss to Houston earlier in the season, the Titans offense struggled mightily last Sunday in a 27-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, converting just 1-of-9 third downs and averaging just 4.7 yards on 21 pass attempts. For the season, Tennessee is firmly entrenched as the NFL’s lowest-output offense by averaging 244.0 yards and 14.4 points per game, both the worst marks in the league.
