Giants QB Jaxson Dart receives vital message amid being sidelined for injury

Jaxson Dart will not suit up for Week 11 as he continues to recover from the concussion he suffered in the Giants’ Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears. The rookie quarterback remains in the league’s concussion protocol, and the team is taking a cautious approach after multiple evaluations for head injuries this season.

Dart is expected to remain sidelined for at least another week. This is his fourth concussion evaluation since preseason, which has raised concern inside the building. The injury happened when Dart took off on a third-quarter run against Chicago. He fought for extra yards, got hit hard, and fumbled the ball. That aggressive decision led directly to the concussion that has now kept him off the field for back-to-back weeks.

Giants want Jaxson Dart to make necessary modifications

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, people “inside and outside the Giants organization” have urged Dart to change his running approach. He has been told to be “more thoughtful and careful with when and how he runs,” especially because his style often leads to heavy contact. Quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney even showed him clips of other mobile QBs and highlighted the line between being aggressive and practicing self-preservation.

The question arises, what went wrong? Dart treats every run like a fight for the first down. It energizes the offense, but it also puts him in harm’s way. To avoid more injuries, he’ll need to slide earlier, avoid unnecessary hits, and trust his arm when he can.

“Dart has a propensity not only for running but also being aggressive in trying to gain extra yardage — often at the expense of his own well-being,” Schefter wrote.

Dart’s production shows why the Giants want him protected. He has completed 62.7% of his passes for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns, and three interceptions. On the ground, he’s been even more impressive with 317 rushing yards and seven scores, including a historic streak of five straight games with a rushing TD.

The Giants know Dart’s toughness is real, but they also know it comes with risk. The staff wants him healthy for the long run, not just the next play. His future is bright if he learns how to stay on the field.
