Ibrahima Konate has conceded the ongoing saga surrounding his future is affecting his relationship with Liverpool supporters. The France international is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree an extension with the Reds.
The 26-year-old, who has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, has endured an inconsistent campaign so far with his performances coming under increased scrutiny as a result.
Free to agree a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from January 1, the defenderrevealed at the start of the year that he had been offered a new deal by the Reds, but was not yet close to signing an extension.
Meanwhile after lifting the Premier League trophy in May, he then branded social media speculation around his contract negotiations as "completely fake" and revealed his agent had held fresh talks with the club the previous week.
As speculation around his future continues ahead of the Frenchman heading into the final six months of his contract, Konate has admitted he is aware of the impact is having on his relationship with Liverpool supporters.
“It’s clear we think about it,” he told Telefoot. “But what’s complicated is that we can’t say everything because there’s a lot of things being said in the media.
“Sometimes I see things and I’m like, ‘oh la la’, and it gets me into trouble with the Liverpool fans even though they don’t know all the ins and outs.
“Anyway, I hope and I know that in any case the most important thing is that I’m happy. We’ll see (if an announcement is made soon), we will see. In any case we hope so."
Konate had already offered an update on his future when speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of France’s final World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan - a game which will see him captain Les Bleus.
"I've seen a lot of things in the press recently, like Liverpool have made me a new offer,” he said. “I don't know where that's coming from.
“My agents are continuing discussions with Liverpool. I hope my decision will be made very soon so I can announce it.”
