The New York Jets have broken their silence after cornerback Kris Boyd was critically injured in a shooting.

According to the New York Post, Boyd was shot twice in the wee hours of Sunday morning once a verbal dispute turned violent in Midtown, New York. He was swiftly taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he actively remains in critical but stable condition.

Speaking to CBS Sports, a spokesperson from the Jets said: "We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time."

Just after 2 a.m., Boyd was shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant on West 38 Street near Seventh Avenue. Though he was not initially identified by police as the victim, law enforcement sources later confirmed to the Post that the NFL defensive back was the individual who was struck.

Boyd proceeded to go in and out of consciousness before first responders rushed him to a nearby hospital. Per law enforcement, the shooter drove off in a BMW X8 SUV and remains at large, with no arrests being made as of writing. The incident is currently under investigation.
